Space Lens
See what fills a drive, and clean it without anything leaving the machine
A disk visualiser and cleaner for Mac, Windows and Linux, set in my own design system. It can review every device I own from one window, over my own network, and nothing leaves the machines. A native iPhone and iPad companion, written in SwiftUI, is in development.
- Client: Personal
- Year: 2026
- Platform: Mac, Windows, Linux and iOS
- Service: Software Design
- 3 Desktop systems: Mac, Windows and Linux
- 12 Tools around the lens, from junk to duplicates
- 0 Files sent off your own devices
Challenge: Where did the space go?
Most disk tools show a list that is hard to read, or send your file list to someone else's server to analyse it. I wanted to see at a glance what fills a drive, clean it safely, and do the same for every computer I use without any of it leaving them.
Goal: One lens, every device, nothing uploaded
A sunburst you can dive into folder by folder, with the usual clean-up tools around it, served by a small helper on each computer. Devices talk to each other only on my own network, and only with the key each one prints.
Result: A cleaner that explains itself
Click a wedge to dive in and the level you left slides back into the stack; press Esc to come back. Around the lens sit junk, large and old files, duplicates, photos, trash, privacy, startup items, processes, maintenance, an uninstaller and a shredder, each adapted to Mac, Windows and Linux. Removals go to the Trash unless you choose otherwise, and system folders are refused. Photo matching reads a private copy of the Photos library and never writes to it: anything you pick goes into an album for Photos to delete.
